A structural evaluation of Tainter Gate No. 3 was performed, after the mechanical system of the hoist motors stressed the top section of this gate, causing fracture of structural steel elements and connections, and excessive deformation of the structure. The objective of the work was to verify if the structural system for Gate No. 3 complied with the design load requirements and identify the structural elements that need to be rehabilitated to comply with the original design loads. A rehabilitation program was proposed that included a portion of the shell, frame elements including steel angles and I-beams and replacing of bracing members. The estimated construction cost for this project is $1, 200,000.
