RJAE provided architectural, engineering, planning and construction supervision services for a 45,000 square feet two story reinforced concrete manufacturing facility for Checkpoint Systems of Puerto Rico (C1IK). The facility is scheduled for completion in October 1997 and is referred to as Phase II. Through the implementation of Phase II, RJAE is developing a Master Program which incorporates the different structures and elements to reflect common themes which share aesthetic qualities and thereby provide CHK with a recognizable architectural identity. The master program currently includes administration, manufacturing, multi-purpose, recreational and parking facilities. 

       The Phase II manufacturing facility combines similar specialty areas and production processes as Phase I, which was also design by RJAE, and once completed will double the current production capacity. The project is being implemented through the use of a design/build strategy. RJAE developed, in coordination with CHK, a team approach with the construction contractor which provides for a fast track implementation strategy. This strategy provides for the optimization of design criteria with construction materials and techniques in order to minimize project cost and schedule duration. This implementation strategy required certain elements to be under construction prior to the completion of the projects final design. This overlapping of design development and construction performance required extensive sharing of information, between RJAE and the contractor. This implementation approach will result in a project completed under budget and ahead of schedule.
